As befits an action game, players engage in spectacular chases and hand-to-hand combat. In the combat scenes, players encounter the criminals who run the town of Tyndalston and the police who try to maintain order on its streets. The protagonist excels in close combat, eliminating enemies with his fists and kicks or improvised melee weapons, such as gas pipes. As we progress, we accumulate the funds needed to repay the debt and develop Samson. This unlocks various upgrades that increase his chances of success. Become King of the Road! This key element is overseen by Alex Williams, a designer known for his work on Mad Max. This foreshadows a gritty and physical approach to road combat. In the game, cars are more than just a means of transportation; they are true tools in the player's arsenal. Samson's damage system moves away from simplistic energy bars in favor of realistic component destruction. Damage is directly related to the speed and mass of colliding objects, and vehicles are composed of numerous parts that can fail. Players must be prepared for a blown tire, which can drastically reduce traction, or a damaged wheel, which can impede steering and lead to a spectacular high-speed rollover. The Tyndalston Police Department (TPD) is an equally crucial element of the gameplay. The TPD will respond to the player's actions. Encounters with the law are designed to be dynamic and escalate depending on the crimes committed. This makes Tyndalston a living organism that responds to the protagonist's actions. Jobs The game is driven by the jobs accepted by the titular protagonist. Completing these jobs is necessary to repay the debt owed to the protagonist, but completing them requires action points, of which there is a limited supply. Therefore, not all money-making opportunities can be exploited, forcing us to make difficult decisions about what to pursue and what to ignore. Further complicating matters, the city constantly reacts to our actions. What we do and for whom we do it determines how individual characters treat us. Here, in addition to fighting for our lives, we also fight for our heritage—technology, tribe, and settlement. These components form a potential mini-civilization in ARK: Survival Evolved. Digital dinosaurs Before conquering the world, it would be wise to learn what kind of fauna we will encounter. The animals we encounter are often not real species but variations of real ones created by the developers. This is the case with the various dinosaurs we see from the beginning of the game. Analysis of fossils shows that some were capable of gliding and others led semi-aquatic lifestyles. The beginning of the dinosaur era is associated with a mass extinction event on Earth. The Permian extinction, which occurred approximately 245 to 250 million years ago, wiped out over 90% of life on Earth. Dinosaur ancestors are believed to have first appeared 230 million years ago as small, bipedal reptiles that gradually evolved to dominate the fauna of all continents. Dinosaur hegemony, which lasted throughout the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods, ended with their extinction. Sixty-six million years ago, the Cretaceous extinction occurred, eliminating at least 75% of the animal species that existed at that time. It is widely accepted that this extinction event was caused by a meteorite impact. Among the survivors were the reptilian ancestors of today's birds. Let's go, mammoth! In ARK: Survival Evolved, we can domesticate various animal species encountered during the game. These pets can include diplodocuses, horses, scorpions, vultures, and mammoths. However, the domestication process is not easy. It requires patience, resources, and time. Having your own breeding stock is practical — animals help players survive. We control our charges using commands, and they assist in farming and gathering resources. Some can be used for transport, scouting, and combat. Of course, such animals must be tamed. There are several ways to domesticate animals. Some species must be stunned and then fed. Another method is to tame them by feeding them without using violence. Some animals, on the other hand, must be saddled after being stunned. The effectiveness of the taming process depends on the food we feed our future pet, among other things. As we learned in history class, many species have been domesticated in different parts of the world. This lengthy process occurred alongside the gradual transition of humans from a nomadic to a sedentary lifestyle. Today, animals serve many purposes, such as providing food and raw materials, performing work such as transport, hunting, and service, and serving as decorations and sources of entertainment, such as horse racing. Strength in numbers! It's hard to imagine how humanity would have developed if our ancestors hadn't cooperated with each other. Surviving alone, especially when armed only with a spear, can be problematic if we have no one to support us in defeating a predatory opponent. The same is true in ARK: Survival Evolved, but the developers anticipated this problem and implemented the ability to create your own tribe. By uniting in a tribe, group members can pursue a common goal, such as building and defending a settlement or hunting. An additional advantage is that performing various activities in the presence of a fellow tribesman results in bonus experience points, accelerating advancement to the next level. Depending on the group's arrangements, your pet can become the tribe's property and remain there even if you leave. Otherwise, tribe members can give it commands. We solve the issue of property brought to the community similarly — it can be communal or private. In the struggle for survival in the wilderness, alliances or wars with other tribes often form. In such conditions, conflict is likely, especially when resources are scarce and we know our neighbors have an abundance of them. This is not surprising; we know of similar cases of intertribal conflict throughout history. These conflicts were often bloody. No fun without resources! As we progress in the game, we unlock new engrams, or patterns for crafting items. These include weapons, clothing, and architectural elements. Each invention requires obtaining the right amount of resources, such as wood, stone, or plant fibers. After collecting the materials, we begin crafting the item, a process that can sometimes be quite time-consuming. Engrams may seem arranged chronologically according to the order in which a given item was invented by humanity. However, our character can quickly learn the pattern for a blood transfusion syringe bag while using only a slingshot for defense. Despite the lack of reference to actual chronology, ARK: Survival Evolved addresses the issue of human development at an accelerated pace. Above all, it illustrates how problematic the availability of raw materials can be. Conflict with a tribe hindering our acquisition of materials can limit our group's technological development and leave us defenseless. Such situations are also familiar to us from history. For example, consider the crisis in the eastern Mediterranean basin that took place at the turn of the 13th and 12th centuries BCE. The Hittite Empire collapsed at that time, most likely due to the Sea Peoples seizing trade routes, which led to famine and internal destabilization. The interruption of supplies to Mycenaean Greece, including copper and tin used to produce bronze for military purposes, led to devastating internal conflicts over raw materials. Waiting for Offspring The result of our interference in the world of ARK: Survival Evolved is the reproduction of selected domesticated individuals. If they are kept in a confined area or walked together, our pets may become interested in each other. Depending on the species, mating will result in either an egg or pregnancy in the female. As in reality, the right air temperature is essential for the development of the baby dinosaur. Without warmth, our efforts to breed a small dinosaur may be unsuccessful. In the case of a pregnant female, we must ensure that she has enough food — after all, she is eating for two. When the baby is born, it must be accepted into the herd. It requires a lot of food and constant care, especially in the early stages. If we don't prepare supplies in advance, we may be in for a big surprise, as litters can have up to three babies. As in real life, selecting the best individuals brings us closer to achieving the desired characteristics in our herd. If we pay attention to the baby as it grows and feed it the right food, its initial stats may improve. The subject of many books, films, TV series, essays, scientific dissertations and even psychological experiments, reflections on human nature in a world without public order are everywhere. ARC Raiders, a sensational video game that I haven't been able to tear myself away from for several days, adds another dimension to this genre. This extraction shooter says a lot about our herd behaviour. Explore the post-apocalyptic world in search of valuable resources on the surface The world presented in the game evokes strong associations with The Matrix. Humanity has been defeated by its own creation: thinking robots that have taken control of the planet. Humans have been forced underground, fighting for the survival of their species. Only the bravest venture out onto the surface, which is filled with relics, in search of resources. However, it is clear that they cannot hope to fight the machines on equal terms, as they are overwhelmingly superior. ARC Raiders is an extraction shooter game. Players venture to the surface alone or in small groups to search for treasure while avoiding clashes with robots. While it is possible to win clashes with smaller machines, it is better to avoid confrontation and focus on searching for loot, as this saves time and valuable resources such as ammunition and shields. Therefore, it is much better to avoid confrontation and focus on searching for loot. The problem is that we are not the only ones looking for relics. Other groups of players are doing the same. Murder on the surface, on the other hand, comes easily. There are no consequences, and the valuable loot of the slain daredevil finds a new owner. Moreover, it is much easier to kill a human than a machine, which adds to the tension. I am delighted by the way the psychology of ARC Raiders players differs depending on whether they play alone or in a group ARC Raiders has a very intuitive lobby system built in. If we venture to the surface alone, we will find ourselves on an open map alongside other lone players. Organised groups of friends, on the other hand, will encounter other teams. This avoids disparities in firepower. An unexpected consequence of this division is a complete change in player psychology. When I venture to the surface in a group — even just two people — a bloodbath with other players is almost guaranteed. Teams open fire without hesitation, sometimes from a distance. There is a clear division between us and them. A tribal battle ensues, in which our small community must prove its superiority over the others. Classic rivalry. With the support of our allies behind us, we are more willing to pull the trigger. At the same time, our companions make us perceive other players as enemies by default. After all, we have our own group. The others are strangers. There is no place for us among them. Even if we don't want to fight, one of our allies might pull the trigger. Or one of our enemies. Peace is out of the question as it would be seen as a sign of weakness by our comrades, and it seems unlikely anyway. Even if five players want to avoid fighting, a shot from the sixth player will unleash hell. That's why it's better to shoot first and gain the upper hand. It's a completely different situation when I go solo. The behaviour of the players changes radically Deprived of a sense of belonging and group support, players avoid confrontation. If they hear others — and the soundscape in ARC Raiders is extremely rich; you can hear everything with good headphones — they immediately shout: Don't shoot! This command can be issued via the communication menu, and it is the one most often heard on the map during solo games. It carries in open spaces and narrow corridors. Don't shoot! Don't shoot! Players promise mutual peace, sometimes confirming it with a flashlight. The peace prevailing on solo servers is downright puzzling. Despite having encountered other players face-to-face a dozen or so times, I have never once been betrayed by a series of shots to the back. I should have been, though, because random daily challenges often encourage fighting other players. You get points for completing them, which can be exchanged for cosmetic items. Nevertheless, the maxim pacta sunt servanda prevails. The differences in the nature of solo and group gameplay force reflection. It's interesting to see how much the player's attitude changes. The lack of division between us and them, and the absence of tribal rivalry, affects our ability to find peaceful solutions. Even though the reward of equipment is tempting, the greater danger from the robots takes precedence. Peace of mind becomes valuable in itself, making it easier to survive on the surface. I have played many extraction shooters, but in none of them was the behaviour of the players so human. Although they are capable of fighting, the seekers do not, showing a maturity that is foreign to the communities of other online productions. This alone gives the impression that you are experiencing something unique. It's an original production. In many games, the extraction module is significantly inferior to the shooter module. This results in a strange battle royale with an evacuation function. However, the essence of this unique genre lies elsewhere. Not in regular, vulgar PvP clashes, but in planning, exploration and the effective acquisition of resources. The number of players killed should be less important than what is brought back to base. This is where ARC Raiders excels. After spending a few days with this unique title, I am convinced that the developers have created something exceptional. It's a game in which extraction is key and shooting is an addition. It's an incredible achievement that showcases the developers' craftsmanship in terms of balancing mechanics and economics. This means that the game map will never be static, so reaching hidden locations first will give you a significant advantage. You will need equipment, spice and... hallucinations? Filtraki, or water-filtering suits, are a key element of gameplay. They can be upgraded to help you survive harsh conditions more efficiently. As with weapons and other equipment, your success will depend on what you manage to create or find. As well as classic crafting, there will be a spice system — collecting and using spice will affect your character's stats and your perception. Spice can give you new abilities, but it can also distort your perception of reality. The developers have announced that you will be able to 'consume spices to overcome the limitations of the senses and gain new powers'. Psychedelic visions will not only be an addition, but also part of an extensive character development system. A sandy setting The game engine enables smooth movement across vast spaces and real-time environmental changes. The graphics are impressive – they're not photorealistic, but they're stylish and atmospheric. Storms, dust, a fiery sky and the vastness of the world are all rendered beautifully. There is also a full day-and-night cycle and dynamic weather. Fans of the Dune universe should be satisfied. A large group of players started their adventure a little earlier (one of the perks of owning the more expensive editions). The initial reviews suggest that this is a hit. The number of activities available from the outset is overwhelming. As part of the main missions, we will fight local warlords, collect debts and rob banks, trains and private farms. But don't worry — this is only a fraction of what awaits us. The world of Red Dead Redemption 2 boasts the most dazzling and vast scenery I have ever seen in a video game. Until recently, I thought the latest Assassin's Creed was beautiful and captivating, but the ancient Greek landscapes pale in comparison to what Rockstar has created here. To the east lie misty, damp swamps where alligators eye us greedily. The north is a frosty land where winter seems endless, icicles hang from Arthur's nose and a lack of warm clothing can lead to rapid hypothermia. The west comprises the dry, vast prairies that we know from John Marston's adventures. Their vastness evokes both anxiety and nostalgia. Between these areas, however, are the uncultivated remnants of former forests, which provide shelter for a variety of fauna. The best sandbox in history! Each of these places affects Morgan differently. Sand bites into the nostrils of our mount, dirt clings to the bloodstained shirt of Arthur, and weapons freeze and jam in the mountains, swept by blizzards. Every detail has been crafted with passion, care and commitment. When gathering herbs to make healing potions, we must be on our guard so as not to fall prey to predators. While the coyotes we encounter are more likely to flee than attack head-on, confronting an enraged grizzly bear could quickly result in the main character's death. But what if we want to hunt big game ourselves? Arthur employs a variety of techniques to help him track animals effectively. These include scent masking, carnivore lures and appropriate ammunition. Each of these makes it easier to catch and skin furry animals quickly. We then exchange the skins and trophies we have obtained with a trapper for protective clothing. The dynamics of this world deserve special praise. When travelling through the wilderness, we cannot be sure of anything. Just because we are attacked by bandits in one place does not mean that the same thing will happen to our friends. Encounters with strangers in need of help are unpredictable. This world lives and functions independently of our actions and decisions. The old man whose wound we sucked the poison from may appear in a nearby town or greet us on the trail in a completely different part of the country. Whether we help the poor man begging by the roadside is up to us. One time, he may be just a homeless person; another time, he may be a lookout for bandits lurking in the bushes. Women are kidnapped, wolves chase careless travellers and the horse we scare may fatally wound its owner and escape into the wilderness. However, there is no 'abuse' of the mechanics here; the world is consistent and believable. During the almost 60 hours that I spent playing the game, there was never a time when I had to take someone's word for it. The side missions are small works of art The above activities pale in comparison to the side quests from strangers encountered along the way — these missions often span several chapters. For example, we can help a paleontologist looking for hidden dinosaur bones. We can become an assistant to a mad scientist who wants to bring his own Frankenstein monster to life. Alternatively, we can hand a wanted fugitive over to the authorities and explain to him what cows struck by lightning look like and what awaits him in the electric chair. This is just the tip of the iceberg. A devoted companion will assist the hero in their travels. This devoted companion's level of cooperation varies depending on the breed. The relationship with the mount is not easy, and it's clear that the developers wanted to fully reflect what's going on in the horse's mind. Sounds silly? Perhaps, but in practice it works perfectly: a newly acquired horse will not listen to Arthur, will be skittish, and may even kick him out of pure malice. However, taking care of your mount, feeding it oatmeal cookies and grooming it regularly builds trust and makes it more responsive to your commands. A horse's trust greatly affects its endurance and speed, as well as its behaviour in crisis situations – a well-trained horse will come running faster when called and will even trample its opponents without hesitation. This is not just a gimmick; it's Arthur's true sidekick. Without him, the grumpy gunslinger wouldn't be able to achieve much. We become accustomed to his presence and care about his fate. Seeing a stunned animal unable to get up is an emotional rollercoaster. The same goes for a failed encounter with horse thieves, after which you usually have to find a new mount. The multidimensional Arthur Morgan Arthur himself remains an enigma. His initial devotion to Dutch, his taciturn nature, and his willingness to carry out orders without hesitation can make him seem unfriendly, grumpy, and even boring. Of course, this is merely an illusion – I won't reveal any more in case I spoil the fun for anyone, but suffice it to say that nothing here is as it seems. Red Dead Redemption 2 features strong, vivid characters whose actions can surprise, disappoint or amaze us. I watched with great satisfaction as Sadie Adler evolved – a farmer's wife rescued by a gang who was dissatisfied with her role as camp cook, and whose priority was to regain control of her destiny. Long before the release of Red Dead Redemption 2 (and after the first gameplay footage was presented), the internet exploded and gamers went crazy. The game of the generation? A masterpiece? A magnum opus? I wouldn't dare use such bold words – it's certainly not Rockstar's last hit. However, it has been a long time since I encountered a game that triggered such a wide range of emotions. From joy and silly laughter to crying, anger and bitterness. Red Dead Redemption 2 consists of six chapters, a fantastic epilogue and countless activities that can easily fill 80–100 hours of gameplay. But above all, it features tens of thousands of lines of dialogue and countless poetic moments that come together to form a thoughtful, deep storyline. It's hard to list all the attractions that Rockstar has given us in its latest production. The gameplay in The Presinct feels almost like a cop simulator What should interest sandbox fans is the cross-section of activities in the game. The reality of a policeman's work will be well integrated into the gameplay, and the developers will illustrate the daily duties and dangers of the job. When The Precinct launches, we will be able to issue fines, check parking meters, patrol the streets on foot, tow cars, search for suspects, chase criminals and deal with them using firearms and hand-to-hand combat - leading them to arrest or, as a last resort, to death. It is said that missions will never repeat during the game, which is guaranteed by procedurally generated crime scenarios. It's worth noting that the game involves shooting and using cover, as well as ambushing hostages. Police activities Separately, the theme of pursuits should be developed. Getting to them, as well as exploring successive interconnected locations - the world is not completely open - is made difficult by 'normal' enemies and minibosses. Many of the enemies resemble characters and creatures from Chinese mythology and Journey to the West. In combat, the Monkey King uses a staff and gradually learns more advanced techniques for wielding it. The protagonist also learns magic, including powerful spells and transforming into animals or insects. These skills increase the player's chances in battle, and sometimes allow them to avoid it altogether. Developing the hero However, this is not always possible, so it is necessary to increase the level of the protagonist using the experience points gained from defeating enemies. In this way, and by exploring the world, we can obtain better and better equipment, which can tip the scales in our favour in many encounters. Enemies, as well as characters who are peaceful to the protagonist, are the source of stories full of love, hate, greed and anger. We get to know them by completing related sequences of tasks. These are used to spread chaos on the streets and to escape from law enforcement when resistance becomes too strenuous. As the level of destruction increases, we turn our attention to more and more powerful crime-fighting units. This gives us the opportunity to take over their equipment, including tanks. After five years, Carl returns to Los Santos, where he finds a gangster world of murder, drugs and corruption. But the city's uninspiring landscape is not the end of the bad news; the neighborhood he grew up in looks worse than he remembered it from five years ago, and a feuding family mourns Carl's murdered mother. Unique atmosphere The atmosphere of the game itself is kept in the climate of the 90s, while the phenomenal graphics (realistic fog and light reflections on car bodies and realistic shading) and music turn out to be nothing compared to the innovations introduced in GTA: San Andreas compared to the previous part of the series. The biggest of these is probably the introduction of a hunger factor for our hero. It doesn't end with the provision of food, though, as the character we control can gain weight by overeating, for example. However, this is not the end of the attraction, as unwanted pounds can be shed through regular visits to the gym and an increased dose of exercise. More realistic than ever Another thing that makes the game world more realistic is the increased interaction with the buildings in the cities. Burglaries and robberies, which we have to plan and carry out ourselves, are a very important part of the game. There is also no shortage of opportunities to buy various premises that can earn us money. These include a casino where we can burn through some cash ourselves. Each city is comparable in size to the entire Vice City from the previous part of GTA, so there is no shortage of different means of transport to cover hundreds of virtual kilometres. As well as the usual vehicles such as cars, motorbikes, motorboats, helicopters and aeroplanes, there is also the good old and very useful bicycle. As well as running and driving, Carl Johnson himself can shoot two guns at the same time and, in one of the game's biggest innovations, swim. GTA: San Andreas free download for PC. The two titles are closely linked, but the developers assure that knowledge of the original is not necessary to understand the plot of the sequel. Unlike the first game, the protagonist is not the son of the titular god of the underworld, Zagreus, but his sister - a princess of the underworld named Melinoë. Like her brother, she cannot be killed permanently, so after each death she comes back to life. The setting has also changed. For Melinoë must leave the realm of the Underworld and set out on a mission to kill Kronos - the Titan of Time, who is also her grandfather, and who escaped from a prison in the depths of the Underworld to start a war with Olympus. The daughter of Hades must find him and stop him. Hundreds of minor enemies and powerful bosses stand in her way. To fight them, Melinoë uses a rich arsenal of shadow weapons, as well as deadly skills and dark magic. In learning the arcana of the latter, the princess of the underworld is aided by Hecate - the goddess of darkness, sorcery, supernatural phenomena and crossroads, known from Greek mythology. Game mechanics In terms of gameplay, Hades 2 is very similar to the original. The action is presented in an isometric view. The player begins each quest in a safe starting point, where he can choose his equipment and skills. After leaving it, however, he traverses successive arenas, in most of which he fights hordes of enemies. Passing each chamber is rewarded with special powers, health boosts, gold, etc. These powers are mainly derived from the gods and goddesses of Greek mythology. There are more than a dozen of them in Hades 2 - Zeus, Poseidon, Athena, Aphrodite, Artemis, Ares, Dionysus, Hermes and Demeter, known from 'The One', return, but there are also new characters, such as the god of light, Apollo. After each death, the player returns to the starting point and has to start the game all over again. So to speak, because some of the progress you have made is preserved, following the pattern of the "one". In Hades 2, every success and every failure is rewarded in its own way. In addition, they advance the plot of the game, as Melinoë can meet different NPCs after death than in the previous attempt. Some of them - such as Moros and Dora - we meet for the first time in the series. There are also a number of familiar faces from the first Hades. Trivia Unlike the protagonist of The One, Zagreus, his sister Melinoë was not invented by the developers at Supergiant Games. Her name appears in Orphic hymns and on a certain metal tablet that also mentions Persephone. The developers felt that the mythological sources sufficiently linked Melinoë to the realm of Hades, so they were able to incorporate this theme into the game and adapt it to their own vision. Interestingly, the character is often described in similar terms to the aforementioned Hekate or Erinas - Greek goddesses who personified vengeance, punishment and remorse. Game mechanics Star Wars: Outlaws is played from a third-person perspective (TPP). The production offers a vast world with a number of unique planets. On them we will find wilderness stretching to the horizon, as well as densely populated cities with cantinas full of types from under the dark star and opportunities to earn money. We can cross the different globs on foot or in a fast and agile racer. The title also allows us to take control of the heroine's spaceship, the Trailblazer. Sitting at the helm, we will travel through interplanetary space and engage in breathtaking battles, with plenty of opportunities to perform the iconic superluminal jumps to cover huge distances in fractions of a second. Interesting quests and diverse enemies The driving force of the game is the story-driven quests, which are accompanied by a variety of side missions and activities. As you complete them, you will have to make decisions that will affect the fate of the heroine and her companions. The missions include infiltrating secret locations and stealing valuable items that can fetch a fortune on the black market. We are often hampered in this by enemies, with whom we engage in dynamic clashes using a blaster with various modes of operation. As the enemies can outnumber us, it is often better to stay quiet and take them out by surprise than to attack frontally. Catching them is forbidden, but the game can be worth it, as selling them can make you rich quickly. Just remember not to get caught while hunting. As for how to deal with your Pales - creatures that are exploited to the limit will work more efficiently, but will not live too long, while creatures that are treated well will enjoy a longer life, although we will have to wait longer for the effects of their work. At the same time, Palworld is teeming with threats - from violent atmospheric phenomena to hostile humans and creatures fighting alongside them. Against the latter, we can defend ourselves with the help of the killing tools we make in our factories. When all else fails, we have no choice but to flee, throwing our creatures at the mercy of our enemies to slow down the hunt and save our own skins.
