In addition to the story-driven quests, there are several side missions to complete. The game world is not a safe place, and in addition to hostile convicts, monsters pose a threat. Initially, you'll be up against the local fauna (such as wolves, giant beetles and stubbleworms), but as you progress you'll come up against more formidable foes (such as skeletons, orcs and demons). Fights are dynamic, and we can use both melee weapons (one-handed and two-handed swords, axes, hammers) and ranged weapons (crossbows, bows), as well as offensive and defensive magic. However, the Ukrainian studio has decided to tweak the true look of the awe-inspiring and fascinating Zone, enriching its territory with warring factions, murderous mutants and deadly anomalies. The roots of these changes can be traced back to Arkady and Boris Strugatsky's acclaimed novel Picnic on the Edge of the Road, as well as its unofficial film adaptation - Andrei Tarkovsky's Stalker. In the game, we play the role of a hero called Skif. After another explosion at the Chernobyl reactor in 2006, a powerful energy source has appeared in the centre of Zona. The protagonist decides to cross the Zone and, as a lone stalker, uncover the secret of this mysterious energy. How this expedition will affect him depends on our actions. This is because the story has a non-linear structure, and the difficult choices we make during the game will affect its course and outcome. It is worth mentioning that the plot of the second STALKER is not directly related to the story presented in the previous games under this banner. The authors have provided us with an open world that is one of the largest maps in the history of videogames. It includes both the dense wilderness surrounding the plant and cities (such as Pripyat and Chernobyl-2). As we explore it, we complete quests that advance the storyline, as well as a variety of missions and side activities. The Zona is deadly, yet it gives the impression of a living ecosystem. The mutated lifeforms and hostile humans that inhabit it, as well as the omnipresent radiation and anomalies that bend the laws of physics, force Stalkers traversing it to be ever vigilant.
